Tips That You Need to Know If You Want to Pass The JLPT Examination

If you have been learning Japanese for quite some time and want to find out your proficiency in Japanese language, taking the JLPT Examination is one of the best ways to do that.

JLPT(Japanese Language Proficiency Test) is a language proficiency test conducted by the Japan Foundation. The test itself is divided into five levels which are N5 (the lowest level) up to N1(The highest level). In the test, there are Listening section and non-listening section that include a grammar test and vocabulary test. All of the answers are multiple choice.

JLPT Examination is usually held only twice a year (first Sunday of July and December), and the quota of each city can be pretty limited. That is why if you want to take the examination, you should register for the test as soon as possible. In this post I will share with you some tips to hopefully make you also pass the test. Personally, I have passed the level N3 and N2 in JLPT Examination by learning just by myself which is why I am confident enough to tell you some of the tips that you need to know if you want to pass the test.

1. Find a JLPT learning Material

The first thing you should do to prepare for JLPT is to find a JLPT learning book to help you with your study. Books that specifically aim to make you pass the JLPT are plenty and you can choose that suits you the best. Personally I used the JLPT books released by Gakushudo that have the JLPT Guide up to Level N2. Gakushudo JLPT books however are released in Indonesian, if you don’t speak Indonesian you can choose other JLPT books that are released in so many languages.

2. Install some Apps to Help You in Your Study

There are many helpful apps on our phone that can help you to learn and practice for JLPT. Personally I used Obenkyo to memorize the vocabulary, JLPT: Practice N4-N1 to practice on the questions, and Todaii: Easy Japanese to practice my reading skill. Those three apps are all that I need to prepare for my examination. If you want to use other apps that may suit you the best, you can always browse all the JLPT related apps in playstore/appstore.

3. Always do Some Exercise

To make yourself familiar with the JLPT Examination, you should always practice on answering the JLPT questions. The test is divided into two or three sections depending on the level of difficulty. The test is mainly divided into listening and non-listening sections. The listening section is usually tested at the end of the test. To make yourself more familiar with the listening section, you can try to practice with JLPT simulation videos available on Youtube. There are plenty of videos available from many levels of JLPT. Personally, I also found the reading section quite difficult as the questions are preceded by texts that can get really long on the harder questions. So make sure you also practice the reading section.

That is all about the tips to pass the JLPT Examination from me. I do hope that if you are planning to take the test, you will pass with a satisfactory score. Thank you for reading this blog!
